All aboard the Valentines Express!!!!! Yes it's that time of the year again and Nairobi City is ablaze with roses in baskets, roses in boxes, roses in wrapping paper, roses at the doors, roses at the desks, roses in the cars, roses in the 'matatus', RED ROSES ARE LITERALLY EVERYWHERE!
About 10 years ago, on a whim I decided to dress up in the typical Valentines colour of love and I revelled in being cupids assistant. I was full of warm messages, a quick smile ( and even some hugs) for the lucky few. Fast forward to this year and I am much closer to being the Grinch from Christmas season. A busy day with back to back trainings, throw in a three hour evening in USIU and then head a dinner-less non-romantic evening with leftovers from yesterday. What is there to celebrate?
Love is a choice. Love is a decision. Love is unwavering. Love doesn't operate on moods. Love is experienced more in giving than in receiving. I choose to be happy and not cynical. I have decided to be cheerful regardless of the absence of an actual Valentine or the proverbial red roses. I will not waver my moods and indeed in 2013 I will focus more on giving smiles, hugs and where possible tokens of appreciation to all whom I interact with.
Happy Valentines Ya'll!
Aaaaaaaaaawwwwww deep stuff....
